Grape seed extract comes from red grapes.
Before its discovery, the best antioxidant source was vitamin C and vitamin E. Now, grape seed proves to be 20 times more potent than vitamin C and 50 times stronger than vitamin E. Grape seed is rich in oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPC).
These antioxidants guard cells against cancer-causing free radicals.
The French Paradox
Their fatty diet and heavy smoking heightens the risk of heart attack and stroke yet the French have very low rates of heart disease. How can this be explained? Scientists found that drinking red wine provides the answer. Like grape seed extract, red wine contains OPCs. In fact, grape seed contains the most OPCs and is named as one of the most powerful antioxidants. This mitigates the effects of the French's fatty diet and smoking.
