Benefits of Lutein
One of the main benefits of lutein is...well...
Did you know it’s in your eyes? Yes, lutein is in the retinas of your eyes. Like bilberry, it helps slow the onset of eye disorders like macular degeneration and cataracts. A healthy intake of lutein ensures that you will maintain good vision. High lutein consumption has also been linked to decreased incidence of prostate cancer. Men, take note. But what exactly is lutein? Lutein comes from the carotenoid family. It’s a carotene just like the popular beta carotene. This is a super healthy family in your diet.

Effects of Lutein
No adverse effects of lutein have been reported. However, taking too much of any one nutrient may cause problems. Consult your doctor, especially if you take medication or are pregnant or nursing.
Supplement with Lutein
As mentioned above, lutein is in the carotenoid family. Carotenes work together, so look for a multi-nutrient supplement that has a combo of carotenes. That would be the most effective. For example, beta carotene, lutein, and zeaxanthin.
