Benefits of Myrrh

What is Myrrh?

Do you know the benefits of myrrh?

myrrh tree Myrrh herb derives from gum resin on the stem of commiphora mukul tree. These trees have knotted branches and spiny right-angled smaller branches.

Ancient cultures used myrrh in perfumes. Jews used it in holy oil. Egyptians, for embalming. Romans used it to mask the smell of the burning corpse during a funeral.

In modern times, myrrh is found in incense, perfume, toothpaste, and lotions.

To this day, the nomadic Berbera and Banian tribes of India collect myrrh herb and bring it to local markets.

From there, it's shipped to Bombay for sorting, then distributed worldwide.

Myrrh Uses - The Good Stuff

Studies have also shown that guggul lowers bad (LDL) cholesterol and raises good (HDL) cholesterol. Clinical trials show that guggul also lowers triglycerides. As you know, high LDL cholesterol and a high triglyceride count greatly increase your risk of heart disease.

Dangers of Myrrh Herb

It is not recommend if you are pregnant or nursing.

If you take medication to treat high cholesterol, high triglycerides, or diabetes, please consult your doctor first.

Myrrh in a Supplement

The standardized extract is the most potent. It contains the highest percentage of the active ingredient guggul. Myrrh extract should be standardized to contain 5 % guggulsterones; look for this on the label.

You can take myrrh extract separately or a part of a multi-nutrient supplement. Which one is better? Well, getting nutrients that are formulated together takes advantage of the synergy between vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and herbs.

Synergy is when the presence of one nutrient makes another more effective or better absorbed by the body.
