Boswellia Complex

The herb boswellia complex is also known as Indian frankincense.

boswellia extract It comes from the gum resin on the bark of the Boswellia Serrata. This tree grows in the dry hilly areas of India. It has long been used in Ayurvedic medicine.

Local healers in India, China, and the Middle East use it to treat illnesses and chronic conditions like arthritis.

The frankincense referred to in the Bible was most likely an extract from the Boswellia tree. Betcha didn't know that.

How it Helps You Feel Better

boswellia complex Boswellia extract acts as an anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic.

It's good for your joints.

It reduces pain and swelling in joints, especially in the hands and feet. It's also a traditional back pain remedy in India.

The active ingredient is the gummy resin (salai guggul) in the sap of the boswellia serrata tree. It helps blocks an inflammatory chemical called 5-lipoxygenase enzyme.

This enzyme causes osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and chronic back pain.

Natural healers and herbalists believe boswellia provides the same relief from pain and
inflammation as over-the-counter drugs
---without the "upset stomach" side effect.

Bowellia is useful for these ailments:

  • gout

  • lower back pain

  • myositis

  • fibromyalgia

It also helps repair blood vessels damaged by inflammation.

More Boswellia/Inflammation Info

In the last 20 years, through the work of western-trained Indian physicians and researchers, boswellia's power has become documented.

We now know that herbal boswellia reduces the deterioration of glycosaminoglycans, key components of cartilage.

Boswellia has also tradtionally been used to treat respiratory ailments. It helps reduce mucus production and makes breathing easier.

Asthma, as you may know, is the chronic inflammation of the respiratory passages. Recent studies report that boswellia extract shows promise in reducing bronchial inflammation. This is only preliminary research though.

Boswellia Side Effects

None to report.

Unlike many store-bought painkillers, boswellia doesn’t cause stomach irritation. However, pregnant women, nursing women, and people on medication should consult their doctor first.

Boswellia's long-term effects are unknown.

Boswellia Serrata in a Supplement

If you want to combat arthritis and inflammation, this is a great herb. Boswellia should be standardized to contain 65 % boswellic acids.

Check for this on the label. The percentage should be listed.

Boswellia acts in a synergistic manner with such other joint-support ingredients like glucosamine, chondroitin, and tumeric. A multi-nutrient supplement that combines all three would provide excellent connective tissue support and inflammation relief.
