Chelated Iron

The blood contains more chelated iron than any other mineral. Iron’s most important job is producing hemoglobin and myoglobin.

What do these two things do?

  1. Hemoglobin – main molecule in red blood cells that delivers oxygen from the lungs to tissues.

  2. Myoglobin - supplies oxygen to muscles.

The body also needs iron for a healthy immune system.

List Food High Iron

Iron deficiency is the most common dietary deficiency in the world. It's often simply caused by too little iron intake from food.

Iron from meat is better absorbed than that in eggs and leafy green vegetables. Eating meat also increases iron absorbtion from vegetables.

chelated iron A few iron-rich foods:

  • fish, chicken, pork, liver, veal

  • pumpkin seeds

  • spinach

  • tumeric

  • thyme

Look for recipes that use the spices thyme and tumeric.

Women especially need to monitor their iron intake; it's depleted during menstruation. Pregnant and nursing women should eat an iron-rich diet, because it prevents premature birth and supports a baby's development.

Iron Deficiency Anemia Symptoms

Supplemental iron is necessary if you've been diagnosed with anemia, a condition defined as a shortage of red blood cells. Anemic people have too little oxygen in the body; this leaves them tired, pale, and short of breath.

Other common anemia symptoms:

  • brittle hair

  • difficulty swallowing

  • dizziness

  • fragile bones

  • hair loss

  • spoon-shaped nails

If you do require iron supplements, choose ones that contain an organic form of iron such as ferrous gluconate or ferrous fumarate.

Taking supplemental copper, manganese, molybdenum, vitamin A, vitamin B-complex, and vitamin C can increase iron absorption by 30 percent.
